Early Reviews and Unexpected Discoveries

One of the most rewarding parts of releasing The Clockwork Coroner has been hearing from readers. Some are longtime supporters who have followed my writing journey from the beginning, while others are discovering my work for the very first time.

What has surprised me most is seeing renewed interest in The Murder of Crowe, my debut novel, originally published on December 1, 2019. More than six and a half years later, the release of The Clockwork Coroner seems to be encouraging readers to look back and explore where it all began.

Recently, I received this note from Norma Edler after she finished The Murder of Crowe:

“I read your book, which was hard to put down once started, and it was great. Let me know when you have a new novel!”

Thankfully, I had good news for her.

Not long after, my friend Debbie Van Dusen shared her thoughts on The Clockwork Coroner:

“…I did read your first book years ago, and loved it. I was thinking it was a one time book, but when I heard about the second book, I was pretty excited. I pre-ordered it on Amazon/Kindle, and starting reading on June 1. I finished the book a few days ago. It’s everything I thought it would be. It keeps you going from start to finish. You should be very proud of your books, very well written, and the description of the characters and places made you feel like you were there… GREAT BOOK!”

As an author, feedback like this never gets old.

One question I’ve been asked is whether readers need to start with The Murder of Crowe before reading The Clockwork Coroner. The answer is no. While the books share some connections, each story is designed to stand on its own. You can read The Clockwork Coroner first and then travel back to The Murder of Crowe, or begin with the debut novel and read them in publication order.

Either way, I’m grateful that readers are giving both books a chance.

To everyone who has purchased a copy, left a review, recommended a book to a friend, or simply sent me a message after finishing a chapter—thank you. Every reader matters, and every review helps more people discover these stories.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a feeling there are more stories waiting to be told.
